The relationship between an organization’s senior administration and the development staff is key to successful fundraising. However, the two groups typically approach issues from very different vantage points: we use different language, have different expectations, and the interaction can become extremely frustrating. This session will help development professionals to understand their administrators, bridge the gap and work effectively with their most important champions.

Laura has been active in the charitable sector, in both volunteer and professional roles, for nearly 14 years. Currently, she serves as Director, Advancement for the Health Sciences Campus and School of Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo. In this position she has the rare opportunity to help develop a brand-new program and campus from the ground up, managing fundraising and external relations. Previously, Laura was Director, Advancement for the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph, where she oversaw major giving, annual giving, communications and alumni relations. She has extensive experience in capital campaigns and strategic planning. Laura also holds her Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation.

Laura is a member of both the Board of Directors and Development & Relations Committee for Community Justice Initiatives, and sits on the National Fund Development Committee for LEAF: the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund. Laura has also volunteered with Altruvest Charitable Services, YWCA Cambridge, Family & Children’s Services, the Grand River Baroque Festival, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (Greater Toronto Chapter).
